Clean Makeup Artist

Putting Client Safety before Artistry

Currently, the USA has no formal licensing or standards enforced for makeup artists regarding sanitation.

My ethics have made me self-enforce my own disinfection protocol to keep clients safe for the past decade. By consistently investing in education from multiple credible sources to keep current on the best germicides, antiseptics, disinfectants, and antimicrobials and have taken courses from microbiologists to apply makeup safely with a health-grades perspective and protocol.

Proper Protocol

  • Hands are always washed and then sanitized with 70% Alcohol

  • Only use items that can be cleaned and then disinfected safely

  • Never double dip directly into products

  • Use a clean spatula to pick up makeup product and put it on a sterile stainless steel palette to work off of

  • Brushes are cleaned and sanitized with hospital grade disinfectants between each client

  • If doing multiple faces, have extra sets of clean, disinfected brushes

  • Any tool that is too porous to be disinfected is disposed of after single use or gifted to the client

  • I am vaccinated and continue to wear masks during every makeup application and on set

  • I get covid testing weekly or biweekly

  • I carry and will wear gloves (upon request)

  • I can airbrush if someone prefers for me not to touch their face at all (upon request)

  • I am happy to use personal mascara / makeup / brushes and other items (upon request)

I recognize most makeup artists in my industry are not mindful of kit health and hygiene. Hopefully, the Covid-19 pandemic will be the catalyst to provoke change and get the industry to have this hard discussion and technique shift. By taking sanitation seriously and meticulously we can easily eradicate cross-contamination during our applications be can avoid MRSA, staph infections, and spreading cold sores and eye infections.

Makeup Artists have a very unique, personal job and must take responsible precautions to protect clients who are immunocompromised or germaphobic and help them feel confident that they are in safe hands.
