Can Youtube Teach You How To Be a Professional Makeup Artist?

YouTube is an excellent platform for learning new skills, including makeup application. However, while YouTube can provide a wealth of information and tutorials, this is why I do not personally believe it is enough to rely solely on this platform to become a professional makeup artist.

Here are some reasons why learning makeup from YouTube is not enough:

  1. Limited interaction and feedback

While YouTube tutorials can be informative, they lack the interactive and personalized feedback that you would receive from a professional makeup artist. In-person feedback allows you to receive advice specific to your skill level and unique features.

  2. No formal training

Watching makeup tutorials on YouTube does not provide you with the formal training and education required to become a professional makeup artist. A makeup artist has to undergo extensive training, which covers areas such as color theory, skin analysis, and product knowledge.

  3. Lack of hands-on experience

Learning from YouTube does not provide hands-on experience with different skin types, face shapes, and textures. A professional makeup artist needs to have experience working with different people and adjusting their techniques to suit individual needs.

  4. Quality of content

Not all YouTube channels have high-quality content, and some may provide misleading or inaccurate information. It is important to ensure that the content you are learning from is reliable and accurate. Many YouTubers call themselves makeup artists but are actually just Influencers or Makeup enthusiasts who they themselves learned how to do makeup on Youtube. Therefore they are just regurgitating information that may not be completely accurate. Often these youtubers are only demonstrating how to do makeup ontheir own face and makeup is not a one-size-fits-all approach. What works on one person rarely works for everyone.

  5. Professional-grade products and tools

Professional makeup artists use high-quality products and tools that are often not available to the general public. Learning from YouTube may not provide you access to the same quality products and tools, which could affect the quality of your work.

In conclusion, while YouTube is an excellent platform for learning new skills, it is not enough to rely solely on this platform to become a professional makeup artist. Formal training, hands-on experience, and access to professional-grade products and tools are all critical components in developing the skills required to succeed as a professional makeup artist.
