Let There Be Light by Daria Koso

We pulled together this last-minute shoot with Miami-based Belarusian photographer, Daria Koso. Daria is a genius when it comes to light and lighting. I am always blown away by the effects she makes with a few lights. All of these images were shot on a white background, she just lit them and used gels or other really cool tricks to bend and refract light in different colors or patterns. It’s pretty shocking what she can do! Of course, her natural, sunlit outdoor work is incredible but my favorite is watching this young master of light, in her true element…. the indoor studio.

Kaylin Baer from Wilhelmina Miami was our muse this day. Keshia did some fabulous hair. For makeup I wanted her skin to be shiny and glasslike to pull out Kaylin’s amazing bone structure and have something the cool lighting could sit on and highlight. Classy and glassy was my catchphrase of the day. Sometimes it’s best to take a backseat and let the other elements of the photoshoot be the stars, so I purposely didn’t do any major makeup changes throughout the day.

Do you think it’s always necessary to create one cohesive editorial story or is it just as neat to just create a series showcasing different moods?
